Marine
Managing our impacts on marine life is one of London Gateway’s top priorities and remains a key factor in the planning and construction process.
We work alongside, and are guided by, a range of regulatory bodies including the Port of London Authority, Kent and Essex Fisheries Committee, DEFRA and the Environment Agency to devise and maintain stringent environmental controls and ensure there is minimum impact on the marine life of the Thames Estuary.
In 2002, expert fisheries consultant MacAlister Elliott and Partners (MEP) was appointed to undertake a survey of the Thames fisheries and review the effects of the construction of London Gateway on the fisheries. Marine Ecological Surveys Ltd. in association with HR Wallingford and Pisces, has also undertaken detailed surveys of the marine resources in the area.
